CG Hub Drawing Jam, The Joust
Deadline: 28th of May 2012
The Joust!
Jousting is a martial sport where historically two riders on horseback run at each other and try to knock the other off with a long stick (A lance if you are picky like that). But what if Jousting was...done on dragons or camels...perhaps on mice by fairies. Any which way for this jam we want an action shot of a joust in challenge. Pull out all the stops, perspective, motion-blur, lens flare...ok maybe not lens flare but you get the idea.
We don't mind what the riders are, or the steeds but they should be running at each other with the intent of knocking the other off with a lance of some description.
Ok, So this will be my first drawing Jam. I already have an idea based on some drawings I completed a while back.
Ok, so this is the sort of look I want to go for. Not sure about the wings yet. I may complete two sketches, on the ground and one in the air. The riders will have an armoured Mass Effect look to them, but I also want them to seem Medieval. The next step is to find some reference images of Jousting.
I want to keep the Medieval look to my drawing, but change it to make it look much more modern and biotic. I also want to have one of the riders flying off his mount from an electronic pulse of energy from the other rider. Sketches and Ideas to be uploaded soon.

Finished Door!
The final texture I added was the material above the door. I found this texture, which I felt was perfect as the colours were not too bright and it matched that of a market stall look.

Texturing continued.
I then created 3 more posters based off those seen in the game.
This was made using the same texture as the other poster and overlaying. This is based on this poster found in the game.

This was also made using the same texture, and is based on the games odd love of Chickens.
This is the final poster I made, which is based on Reaver Industries. I have continued with the comedy side of the game, as well as also getting across the in game work ethic in Bowerstone.
I then decided to find a rusted metal texture, which would make up some parts of the door.

I then applied a concrete texture to the pillars and arch.

First stages of Texturing.
I decided I wanted a texture that I had made on the side of the crate to show it was a Fable based door. I looked at the crates in the game, and decided to create a Reaver Industries crate. This is the texture I created in Photoshop using a wood texture and creating text.
This is the original texture, found here.
And this is the texture I created, decreasing the brightness and increasing the contrast, as well as adding the RI, which stands for Reaver Industries.
I then used the UV texture editor to place the texture on correctly, and for the side faces, I scaled them all up and placed them on the wood where there was no writing.
This is the sign on the model, as well as the wood background which is the same texture as the crate.
I then added this brick texture to the wall:

I then started on creating the posters. This is the poster I created which can be seen on the model above.

Helen McCarthy Feedback
Unfortunately I was quite ill on the day when we presented our projects to Helen McCarthy. Luckily, Kim showed her my work, and wrote down the feedback for me.
Overall, I had really good feedback from Helen, and she said it would make a really good game character which is good! She also liked the fact that my character has no special powers, she is very human. She also told me to look at a character called Rock Holmes by Tezeko, who has a similar trait of the short hair and glasses.

Companion Cube finished
Door Progress - Modeling
As I thought my door was incredibly simple, I decided to add a few things onto the model. The new items are still very basic, but they will add much more to it when it is rendered.
This is the first thing I added, as I knew I wanted a sign of some sort on which I could create my own texture for.
I then added a door handle onto the door, similar to those found in the game.
I also added a crate on the floor to make it look more like an environment than just a door, which is something that is found a lot around Bowerstone Industrial in the game.
All of these objects were made by using simple tools such as extrude. bevel and the cute faces tool, but all help to make my door look much better.
