Companion Cube part 1

As I am struggling with Maya, I decided to try a companion cube tutorial before I progressed with my door.
Firstly, I downloaded some reference images to get the shape of the companion cube correct.

I started with a normal size cube, and then added another cube, at a smaller scale.

I then duplicated this cube and pulled it outwards to create the corner on the cube. I then bevelled this to create this effect.

I then added the smaller cube and selected one edge to bevel to give the rounded look.

Duplicating these three objects did not come easily on my version of Maya as when I duplicated them they were in lots of different places, but after some moving around they were correct.

I then duplicated these four onto the back, with some editing needed to put it in the correct place.

After this, I had to duplicate the smaller cubes and rotate, to finish off the edges.

I am happy with how this is progressing so far, and I am able to solve any problems I have by myself.
